Our office is located at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; located on a 200-acre site in the hills above the University of California's Berkeley campus.
The mission of the Berkeley Site Office to manage the U.S. Department of Energy performance-based manage ment and operating contract for the safe, secure, effective and efficient operation of the (LBNL) Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in support of the missions of the U.S. Department of Energy and the Office of Science.
The Department of Energy's overarching mission is to advance the national, economic, and energy security of the United States; to promote scientific and technological innovation in support of that mission; and to ensure the environmental clean up of the national nuclear weapons complex. The Department has four strategic goals toward achieving the mission: defense, energy, science and enviroment.
The mission of the Office of Science is to foster, formulate and support forefront basic and applied research programs which advance the science and technology foundations necessary to accomplish Department of Energy missions. The Office of Science is the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States. It provides the Nation with world-class, large scale scientific user facilities to maintain U.S. preeminence in science.
